2025-08-01: Ana Filipa Silva Joins the NOA Group as Research Assistant

We are pleased to welcome Ana Filipa Silva to the NOA/Salomé Research Group at INL as a Research Assistant in the area of characterization and degradation of lithium-ion batteries, using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and charge/discharge cycling to investigate battery performance over time.

Ana Filipa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Techniques for Chemical Characterisation and Analysis, both from the University of Minho. Her academic background combines solid theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience, particularly in the synthesis and application of porous materials.

Her Master’s thesis, carried out at INL, focused on the development of MOF-based porous structures for the removal of pesticides from water, a project that combined advanced chemical synthesis with environmental sustainability. Ana Filipa brings valuable experience with techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), and dynamic light scattering (DLS).

She has actively participated in scientific events—including the INL Annual Research Symposium and the CarboCat International Symposium—and has engaged in outreach initiatives such as the European Researchers’ Night, highlighting her enthusiasm for both research and science communication.

Ana Filipa will support ongoing and upcoming projects in materials development, surface characterization, and nanostructured systems for energy applications. We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the contributions she will bring to the group’s multidisciplinary efforts.
