Joel Cardoso Posdoctoral researcher

Joel is a materials chemist with expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of layered electrode materials for sodium- and lithium-ion batteries. He completed his PhD in Chemistry at Lancaster University in 2025, with 2-year visiting period at Imperial College London, focusing on operando XRD and XPDF and synchrotron techniques for battery materials research.

He holds MSc and BSc degrees in Chemistry from the University of Lisbon, where he worked on nanostructured materials for photocatalysis and photovoltaics. His previous research spans dye-sensitised and perovskite solar cells, prototype development, and a range of advanced characterisation methods, including SEM, TEM, XPS, and electrochemical testing.

Joel has contributed to several European research projects, delivered technical workshops, and supervised postgraduate students in experimental battery research.
